Minnesota Summer

Minnesota Summer (front cover), by Gaile Thulson

Life on a small Minnesota farm in 1963 provides nine-year-old Kit and her brothers endless opportunities for adventure. Acres and acres of fields and woods were filled with special places just waiting to be discovered by just the right children. Just around the corner was the beginning of summertime-three glorious months of freedom! There would be caves to dig, hideouts to build, trees to climb, wild berries to pick, horses and tractors to ride, and overnights with her very best girlfriends. Flowers would grow thickly beside the sandy country roads. The most loyal dog in the world would keep them company during long daylight hours, and the fireflies would keep them company during warm summer nights. Today would be a first taste of the summer to come!

Psalm 118 Fulfilled

Psalm 118 is sometimes mentioned as the last Passover hymn sung by our Lord before his betrayal. This is generally made as a passing comment that remains unexplained and undeveloped.

Why was it sung every Passover? Why was it the last hymn sung by our Lord? Did Psalm 118 have any special significance to Jesus on this night? Should it have any special significance to us, his followers, as we look back at the Passion, crucifixion, and resurrection?

This is the hymn Jesus sang as he went out to fulfill the old covenant by giving his life. This is the hymn Jesus sang after giving his disciples the new covenant based on his broken body and spilled blood. The Jewish day actually begins at sundown, so this is the hymn Jesus sang on the day he was crucified.

Imagine Jesus singing these words as he was about to go to his death. When this perspective is used as the lens through which we read and interpret Psalm 118 there is a richness to the psalm otherwise lost.

Heritage Restored (Caroline’s Heritage Series) (Volume 1)

When Caroline Engbert inherits her grandparents’ home, she is not only surprised and grateful, but also deeply hurt and angry at God. Following her parents’ deaths, she’d grown up in a series of foster homes with no knowledge of her grandparents’ existence. Why had she never known them or received acknowledgment of any kind from them while they were alive? What had happened in her family to create such a rift? Is there any way for her to find out? As Book One of the Caroline’s Heritage Series opens, distant toddler memories prevent her from selling their beautiful home and bring her back as a nineteen-year-old to the house she remembers as part of a happier time in life, a time when she had a family of her own, a time when she was loved. Without resources, without family, there is no one else to rely on. She must make it on her own. What will this unexpected inheritance mean to Caroline? How can her homecoming possibly bring the family restoration she longs for, when God has taken all of her family from her? Unsure of what she will find, she is determined to search out all that the house has to reveal. Follow her journey as she discovers her true family history and spiritual legacy in this story of salvation and redemption.
